UK consumers are in denial about their level of debt according to research by Unbiased.co.uk. Two million British consumers (6%) cannot qualify how much debt they are in.
This denial is further emphasised by research by Credit Action which found that one in three adults (12.4 million people) refuse to plan their finances and those that do only set aside 5 minutes a week.
This lack of awareness is leading to an increase in the number of people who are over-indebted. Tom Nelson, Head of Secured Lending at Zen Finance believes customers should take a pro-active approach. Stating "these debts will not go away and will need to be repaid at some point, whether through a secured consolidation loan or more formal procedures."
